The Town of Ranlo is committed to providing a fully accessible website experience for all users of all abilities, including those who rely on assistive technologies like screen readers, screen enlargement software, and alternative keyboard input devices to navigate the web.

Ongoing Efforts to Ensure Accessibility

We follow the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) version 2.1 as our guiding principle for determining accessibility. These are internationally agreed-upon standards that cover a wide range of recommendations and best practices for making content useable. As we add new pages and functionality to our website, all designs, code, and content entry practices are checked against these standards.

Website accessibility is an ongoing process. We continually test content and features for WCAG 2.1 Level AA compliance and remediate any issues to ensure we meet or exceed the standards. Our compliance deadline under ADA Title II is April 26, 2027. Testing of our website is performed using industry-standard tools such as the Accessibility Checker WordPress Plugin, color contrast analyzers, keyboard-only navigation techniques, and readability tests.

The following accessibility features have been incorporated into this website:

  • High contrast color ratios meeting WCAG 2.1 AA standards throughout
  • Keyboard-navigable menus and interactive elements
  • Descriptive alt text on images
  • ARIA landmark roles and labels for screen reader navigation
  • Accessible form labels and error messaging
  • Logical heading structure (H1–H3) on all pages
  • Skip-to-content link for keyboard users
  • Links include descriptive text and open-in-new-tab notifications for downloadable files
  • All forms built natively in WordPress with proper field associations

Known Limitations & Ongoing Improvements

We are actively working to address the following known accessibility gaps:

  • Legacy PDF documents (meeting minutes, agendas, and ordinances) are being reviewed and remediated for tagged PDF compliance ahead of the April 26, 2027 ADA Title II deadline
  • Keyboard navigation testing of the mega menu is ongoing
  • Staff-published content is subject to an ongoing content governance review
