Board of Commissioners Regular Meeting

Police Officer Swearing-In The Board welcomed two new officers to the Ranlo Police Department at the start of the meeting.

• Officer Matthew Daniel Queen was sworn in as a Ranlo Police Officer.
• Officer Hunter Barrett was also sworn in as a Ranlo Police Officer.

Public Comment – Strawberry Lane Parking Ordinance Several residents of Strawberry Lane addressed the Board regarding a no-parking ordinance that had been passed for their street, asking the Board to reconsider it.

• Residents Adam Stevens, April Bradberry, Cindy Zimmerman, Alison Wilson, and James Jones all spoke, describing Strawberry Lane as a wide, dead-end road where street parking has been common for nearly 20 years without safety incidents.
• Residents expressed concern that the ordinance was passed based on a complaint from a single neighbor, and that it creates hardships for families with multiple vehicles and guests visiting their homes.
• Residents noted that fire and public works officials, when asked at the time the ordinance was passed, had not identified any documented safety issues on the street.
• The Board acknowledged the concerns. The town manager confirmed that a draft ordinance addressing Strawberry Lane had already been prepared and sent to the Board. The item will be placed on the next meeting's agenda for a formal vote on whether to revise or rescind the ordinance.

Public Comment – Spencer Mountain Road Sidewalk Extension A resident spoke in support of a previously discussed proposal to extend sidewalks along Spencer Mountain Road to the Spencer Mountain trailhead.

• Drew Warr of 1616 Allegheny Drive expressed support for the project, citing benefits to walkability, trail access, community health, and long-term economic development along the Spencer Mountain Road corridor.
• A board member noted that the sidewalk extension project was one of two projects submitted to Congressman Tim Moore's office for potential congressional funding. Letters of support were submitted from the Ranlo thread trail and the GBA in support of the application.

Committee Appointments The Board considered appointments to fill open seats on two town advisory committees.

• Kelsey Lynch, a civil engineer and new Ranlo resident, was appointed to the Ranlo Resource Network Committee. Motion carried unanimously.
• Carrie Howard was appointed to the Ranlo Resource Network Committee, filling the final available seat on that committee. Motion carried unanimously.
• Tammy Love was appointed to the Ranlo Experience Committee. Motion carried unanimously.

Meeting Minutes – February 12 Regular Meeting The Board adopted the minutes from the February 12 regular meeting.

• A motion to adopt the minutes was made, seconded, and approved unanimously.

Meeting Minutes – Special Meeting The Board reviewed the special meeting minutes with one minor correction.

• A correction was noted regarding the police cadet program: the minutes were updated to reflect that cadets may begin the program at age 19 and are sworn in at age 20, per confirmation from Police Chief Longford.
